Turn YouTube videos into MP3s in seconds

I often find myself needing just the audio from a YouTube video — a podcast episode, a music mix, or a tutorial I want to revisit on the go. I’ve tried dozens of browser tools, but none beat the simplicity and speed of this app combo from Setapp. That’s how I ended up with a seamless workflow using Pulltube, Permute, and Downie to turn any video into a clean MP3 — no ads, no fuss, no quality loss. If you ever wished for a cleaner way to get YouTube audio, this is it.

Setapp Apps used
Step-by-step process

Step 1

Find the YouTube video you want to convert. I usually copy the link right from my watch history

Step 2

Open Pulltube, paste the link, and boom — the video loads

Step 3

Select “Audio only” and click download. I use this to grab long podcasts or live talks I want to listen to later

Step 4

If I need to tweak the audio file, I run it through Permute to adjust the format or compress the size

Step 5

Alternative path? Use Downie. I sometimes switch to Downie when Pulltube acts up or when I want to batch download several videos
